My students vary from Autism, Down Syndrome, physical challenges to multiple disabilities.

Experience:

I am a Mom of two wonderful teenage boys, 16 and 13. I live in Cinnaminson, NJ. Outside of my special ed teaching career, I am a part time personal trainer/coach at Outlaw Fitness in Riverton, NJ. I am an avid runner finishing 10 plus half marathons, and currently training for my 3rd full marathon. I have participated in the 65 mile Tour de Shore bike ride two years in a row. I have also completed many OCR, Spartan Races. It is clear that fitness is another passion of mine, alongside my full time career. I pursued certification as a personal trainer to inspire others to live a healthy fit lifestyle. I have worked with Special Olympics for many years as a coach/coordinator, and each year became more and more fascinated at the level of determination that these athletes strive to meet. To be able combine my two worlds of special education, and fitness and be part of a program such as Enable Fitness is truly a dream come true.

I have supported special needs athletes at Outlaw Training and Fitness and as a volunteer at Special Olympic Games.

Connection to Special Needs:

Growing up playing soccer, I did not have any direct connection to Special Needs; however, I was sidelined in my soccer career due to multiple concussions. During the time that I was unable to participate in sports, I developed a passion for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. I now train for the sport of LIFE. This dedication has lead me to help others reach their fitness goals. Through numerous clients and members at Outlaw, I have learned much about special needs athletes and consider it to be an amazing opportunity to be involved in such an awesome program! These athletes share the same drive that I have, to work out, train and lead a healthy lifestyle.

Experience:

Outlaw Training and Fitness believes in “Training with a Purpose.” The purpose for the special needs athletes which I volunteer to help train through Enable Sports and Fitness and through local special needs programs Field Trips to Outlaw, has been amazing to see. The common goal of working hard to achieve fitness and the camaraderie of the athletes and volunteers is so rewarding. There is never a shortage of affection, support and enthusiasm! It is a great experience for all!

Connection to Special Needs:

When my first son, Daniel, was unexpectedly born with Down Syndrome, it forever changed the path of my life. I am blessed to have learned many valuable lessons, connected with many amazing people in the Special Needs Community, and have the unending, unconditional love and support of family and friends. It hasn’t always been easy, but Dan’s spirit inspires me every day. It is this inspiration that launched the dream for a gym facility, specifically adapted to meet the physical fitness, social, and employment needs of individuals with special needs.

I have competed in 5K Runs, Mud Runs, and a Sprint Triathlon, and Dragon Boat Racing. I have found a home and second family when I became a member of Outlaw Training and Fitness. Their support and guidance has deepened my love and understanding of fitness. Their partnership in Enable Sports and Fitness, has set me on a course to fulfill my dream!
